Marketing for Introverts on Pinterest
Are you wondering how marketing for introverts on Pinterest can work? I thought so! Pinterest can play a huge role in an introvert’s marketing strategy – read on to find out why and how to use Pinterest as an introvert.
The Internet is so BUSY and NOISY. On Instagram there are so many people dancing and pointing in Reels or walking and talking on Stories these days. It’s great if you like that and enjoy doing that kind of thing, but the thought of dancing and pointing in a video on the Internet fills me with dread. For one thing, I haven’t been to the hairdresser for like 8 months and haven’t worn any make up for about a year. Plus, I’m socially awkward and not the most confident in front of the camera. Reels and videos are definitely not for me. I am very much an introvert, and happily so! I’m happiest in my own space and time, with no loud noises and stress. Give me a good book and a blanket and I’m happy AF. The world of social media marketing doesn’t really seem geared towards those of us with an introverted personality though.
With the focus shifting more and more towards video, with Instagram heavily pushing its Reels and of course the rise of TikTok, how can you market your business or blog if you’re not a fan of video? How can you market your business if you are an introvert? I give you Pinterest! Tada!
Pinterest is an altogether different platform. For one thing, it’s not social media, it’s a search engine. Think Google but with pretty pictures. Everything moves at a slower pace on Pinterest than on social media. As everything moves at a slower pace, your content has a much longer lifespan on there. There isn’t the hustle and bustle of the engagement, the comments, the likes and shares and the stress of whether your account has enough followers to do the swipe up. There is no pressure to do things you’re uncomfortable with, such as appearing in video.
The majority of searches in Pinterest are unbranded, meaning you have the exact same chance as one of the massive companies of being seen in the searches. How cool is that?! It doesn’t matter how many followers you have, your content is still discoverable by anyone who is searching and you have the same chance as those multi billion dollar companies of being seen! Yes to Pinterest!
Pinterest is great for introverts because it’s a way of getting your content seen without the social media burnout. You can spend a relatively small amount of time creating and scheduling your pins, post them and then let the Pinterest machine do its thing. It’s passive, evergreen and will bring you traffic without spending tons on ads. With the likes of Instagram or Facebook you have to put the hours in with engaging, liking and commenting and it is so draining! Not so with Pinterest.
Here’s how to use Pinterest as part of your marketing strategy as an introvert.
Set up your business profile – see this blog post about How to Set Up a Business Account on Pinterest if you’re unsure of what to do.
Set up boards relevant to your content. If you make wedding cakes, have boards for different styles of wedding cakes and related items, like wedding decor, wedding styling, wedding flowers etc. All these things are useful to your ideal client and add value. It also means you might appear when they’re searching for those things, increasing your reach further. If you are involved in styled shoots and have group boards with other suppliers, make these boards public and visible after the shoot. Pin the shoot images to the board as well (once they’ve been shown on the blog/magazine etc) for extra exposure.
Create pins for your content and pin them to the relevant boards, leaving a decent amount of time between each pin and never pinning the same URL in 24 hours.
Make your website super Pinterest friendly. Make sure you have a pin it button on your website. Depending on your website platform you can use plug ins such as Tasty Pins or jQuery Pin It Button for Images on WordPress. This allows anyone visiting your site to have the option to pin from your site. Make sure to include some pin images on your site so people can pin already Pinterest optimised images (like this one here!).
Pinterest is such a positive platform that can really help drive tons of traffic to your website or blog, meaning it’s an amazing marketing platform for Introverts. If you are an introverted entrepreneur, Pinterest could be just the thing to market your business.
