Pinterest and keywords go together like peaches and cream, apple crumble and custard, chocolate and hazelnut... you get my drift. Plus now I'm hungry.

Where should you use keywords on Pinterest?

1) Your account name: This is searchable, so adding in a keyword after your blog name eg An Amazing Food Blog | Easy Family Dinner Recipes will help you get more eyes on your content.

2) Your pin titles: A bit of a no-brainer! This is where you need to tell Pinterest and your audience what the pin is about.

3) Your pin descriptions: You get 500 characters to play with here, so plenty of space to add in keywords! Add them in a natural way though, and write for the reader, not the search engine. Don't keyword stuff - it looks icky.

4) This last one isn't strictly on Pinterest - using keywords in the URL of your recipe posts will mean you get traffic from Google but did you know Pinterest crawls the URL linking to the pin? If your recipe is "easy Halloween cupcakes", make sure your URL is amazingfoodblog.com/easy-halloween-cupcakes. You'll get much more traffic than if the URL is amazingfoodblog.com/rektutibv97-88. I promise.

The money is in the list, amiright?

With Google giving bloggers a major ick at the moment, another way to increase your blogging income is with your mailing list.

It's easier than you think to use Pinterest to grow your email list.

1) Create your amazing freebie or opt-in. This needs to be something so good that your readers are happy to part with their email address, but don't go giving away all your secrets for free! Choose carefully.

2) Host your freebie. If you can host it on your Pinterest-claimed domain, that's amazing - Pinterest will love to send traffic to it! If not, you should at least create blog posts about your freebie and embed your sign-up forms throughout those blog posts.

3) Create kick-ass pins that link back to your blog posts about your freebie, and schedule them on Pinterest. Make sure you've done your Pinterest SEO, and these pins will get you email sign ups while you sleep. Pins linking to your domain will perform WAAAAYYY better than those linking to something like ConvertKit or Mailerlite.

Once you've got people on your list, don't forget to nurture them before you try and sell to them!

Google's latest update has been a sh*tshow for a lot of bloggers, some of whom have lost 80% of their traffic, and things aren't looking any brighter. There is another way though - hello Pinterest! Pinterest can drive SOOOOO much traffic to your blog if you get it set up correctly, have a pinning strategy and stay consistent with it. How many pins should you pin a day?

There are so many different "experts" weighing in on this but I would say the optimum number is whatever you can sustain.

If you have a lot of content and a lot of time (or a Pinterest Manager working for you 👋) you'll be able to pin more. With less content or less time, don't overcommit - just stick to 1 or 2 and above all be CONSISTENT. Pinterest values consistency!
